九龍會 - 體育組 Sports
Subgroup - Tennis
About us
Formed by a group of vivid tennis lovers from
all walks of lives since the early 90’s, we do
have one thing in common – the passion for
tennis. It all started with a handful of players
addendum to the footballers at the Singapore
Polytechnic at Clementi. It has today developed
into a 20-member group with close fellowship.
Since then Sunday morning tennis has become part
of our lives.
We practice every Sunday morning between 8-11
am. Rains can hardly stop these die-heart
players. It is not uncommon to see some players
with a mop on one hand and with a tennis racket
on the other.
While we are imitating Rafael Nadal or Roger
Federer, our beloved families are always at the
top of our mind. Our family members are growing
up together, some from toddlers to NS-men while
some from crawling babies to become youngsters
bouncing everywhere. It is the joy and
comradeship that we share together and one thing
is for sure – our passion for tennis is the
binding force.
We better describe ourselves as veteran seasoned
social players - “veteran” because the majority
of us are aged between 45 and 63; “seasoned”
because all of us have been playing for n number
of years; “social” because we enjoy the laughter
more than anything else. On the other hand, we
are young at heart and strong in fitness. See to
believe it – we all appear to be at the 30-ish
who are sliding and grinding every inch of the
court. Recently we have a new member who is aged
mid-thirties. This helps bring down our average
age to a certain extent. In terms of skill
level, based on the NTRP rating system, we rate
ourselves somewhere from -5 to 5. Therefore, our
skills are as good as anybody else.
While the majority of our group members came
from Hong Kong, we do have our international
flavor. We have a very committed member who is a
Brazilian-Japanese, or perhaps we should say
Japanese-Brazilian. Come and find out why we say
that. We also have an Indian national who has
been in Singapore for some 30 years. There are
local Singaporeans frequently participating in
our gatherings as well.
